Our ROM Package

After doing lots of research on the ROM dress and suit, photographer, make-up artist and etc, we have finally shortlisted Bridal Elegance (BE) for their ROM package for our coming Solemnisation.. The package includes ROM dress, photography (2 hrs with all digital shots returns & a 80 pcs 4R photo album), make-up artist (with accessories included) and hand bouquet, it would be more cost saving if compared to having each of the item individually.

The 1st appointment with BE last month, I have actually chosen an upper knee length ROM dress. I like this dress bcos of it’s string back design. I then reconsider again and decided to make 2nd appointment with BE bcos we both feel that the short dress look informal for the solemnization.

Our 2nd appointment last weekend, I tried on a few long dress but feel that it’s really long for me mainly bcos of my height!! I then discuss with Florence (from BE) about my concerns and ideas. We then decided to go for a custom made dress with a promotional price given by Florence. I express to her my preference designs and she drawn out the draft for me.

Hmm.. I’m looking forward for the dress and I hope I didn’t make a wrong decision.

Our Wedding Band

These are our wedding band from Soo Kee Brilliant Rose Series. Mine is a simple yet elegant ring with no diamond. Dear ring has a small diamond in the centre of the ring. We choose the more traditonal type with an elegant design. We also avoid the modern design with many patterns.

Auspicious Dates Selection

Every Chinese couples will want their wedding to be smooth and everlasting. As such they will like to choose an auspicious date for their ROM and customary wedding. Some Geomancer (Fengshui Shifu) says Chinese Customary wedding date is the one that is more important and must select it at the most auspicious date whereas ROM date is not so important.

However we still decide to choose two auspicious dates for both our ROM and Customary wedding. I engaged a local famous geomancer to calculate the dates and the calculation is analyzed based on both of our Bazi. The geomancer told me depending on Tong Shu alone is not enough as some auspicious dates may not be good for the couples also. Truly auspicious dates should be calculated using both Bazi and some other "Chim" methodlogy. The timing is also very important, as good date must have the correct timing also.

We consulted both parents regarding the date selection. Her mum feels that the dates should instead be calculated by a trusted geomancer which she knows for many years. As such, we try to make an appointment with him and it is about one month later before we get to meet up with him.

As he is based in kuala Lumpur, we have to travel up by car all the way from JB to KL to meet him. I must really thanks her dad and her younger brother for the tiring journey as both are the drivers on that day. It a 6 hr drive to and fro.

Finally, we got to see him and everyone (Yiqi, me and his little brother) were very curious to see how he looks like and why he is so famous and highly regarded. The geomancer told us it was fate that we came all the way to KL and he would help us calculate the most auspicious dates for us based on our Bazi. He also told us that he is now semi retired and seldom do it for other people already.

He uses his fingers to do most of the calculations and it was fast. Immediately, at that time he had already analyzed our Bazi and can already tell what our Bazi signified. As our main aim is to select dates, he does not reveal much of our life and destiny. He only said that both of our Bazi are "He Yuan" (compatible) which we were quite happy to hear also. In the midst of conversation, he did reveal some advises on what i can do to excel in life ( like having which type of luck more etc...). He will also help us with the "Guo Da Li" things when our customary wedding date gets nearer.

Dear and me did a comparison of the auspicious dates selected by both geomancers and to my surprise, the dates are exactly the same with only one date differs. Now at least, both parents and us are happy with the dates and we can proceed with other planning.

As you can see, wedding is not only on the couples and it involves the parents as well. However, we must understand that whatever the parents do, they also want us to marry well.

My Beloved Proposal Ring

The ring comes with a very nice Destinee Box comprising of a blue scope. It is issued an AGS cert that shows all the characteristics of the diamond. What sets this cert apart from other cert (like GIA, IGS ...) is that it actually shows you the birthmark of this diamond which is very interesting.

At closer look, the diamond looks quite similar to normal solitaires. From what i heard from the sales person, this destinee diamond will actually look bigger than normal solitaires with the same carat weight. In fact, all AGS Triple Ideal diamond will look slightly bigger. In addition, the shimmering and blinking of the diamond is certainly much more brilliant than solitaires.

He said he wan to trade in my proposal ring and get it upgrade to destinee diamond. I’m not sure how much is the trade in value for this LW diamond, but I think it should not be devalue too much as it has quite high grades in the 4Cs.

We went to tampines mall to see the ring on Christmas Eve day. Actually he had done the selection of diamond and I went there just to try out the ring and view the claws setting. Destinee seldom has promotion and we are lucky to grab this festive/promotion season.

It’s a promise given by him to upgrade a destinee for me and he did it.

The ring is expected to collect during mid of Jan 08.

Purchase of Wedding Band and Pendant

I and dear went searching for our wedding band since quite long time ago but still couldnt find suitable ones. We went shopping for quite some time at jurong point on Friday and thinking that since it is jewellery season now we may get some good purchase. We came across Citigem Roadshow and dear choose a pendant shape like a cherry (Rosella). She quite like it and the saleman is quite persistent and wanted us to buy immediately. I told dear why dont we shop around first in other shops as there maybe more designs there. She agreed and we manage to shake off the salesman with some effort.

We moved on to Soo kee Jewellery to search for our wedding band and pendant and finally decided to get something more conventional and nice to look at. Thinking that we will wear it for a long time, we have omitted those designs that are catered more for very young people. Finally, we have chosen a pair of wedding band which we both liked and comfy to wear. We intend to engrave some wordings on the inner side of both rings to make it more meaningful. It will take about 2 weeks for the ring making to be completed. We have also bought a Pendant which is quite unique and eye catching with a few small diamonds on it.

Finally, We enjoyed our shopping spree at Soo Kee and the salegal that served us is very patient and unlike other sales person, she does not force us to buy anything. She is always with a smile and in fact she has attended to us before and when we stepped in, she still can remember us.

Note: Buy jewellery one at a time and not all at one time unless you are those rich guys. Nowadays, Si Dian Zuan is prefered over Si Dian Jin for younger generation that means have to spend more on jewelleries le.

Soo Kee, SK, LeeWah, CitiGem, GoldHeart, TianPo...etc so much jewellery boutiques that we had visited but i personnally like Soo Kee's design for the wedding band. I knew I'm petite in size, so do my palm and fingers.. so width & thickness is my prior consideration.. finer ring would be better on me. Design wise, I would prefer simple and clear, without over-shine diamondsss so that it would be more comfortable for daily wear. There were designs with patterned diamonds engraved all round the rings, there were white & rose gold mixture and a lot more that you really can't make up the minds. Me and dear actually went down to Soo Kee for 3 times, and everytime we would have different favourites! Finally we choose the conventional yet elegance pair of wedding band.. proudly with a Brilliant Rose diamond on it.

Then we went on to try the pendants.. I love all the pendants that i had tried on!! I must thank the salesgal Jovina that she can easily understand my favourites and always present me the lovely one.. I really can't make my decision for the final 3 until dear gave it a selection. I keep asking Joniva whether there is any Christmas gift and intend to ask for a free scope since i bought Brilliant Rose for both.. but scope is only free gift when purchasing loose diamond (ring).

For frds that are not aware of this, wedding band is the ring that both husband & wife exchanged after the marriage vows.

For the guys going to purchase a ring for her or the ladies going to rewards onself with a ring.. would like to share that ....

Every jewellery boutiques in Sg here would have their branded Diamond certified internationlly (eg Lee Wah is Destinee, SooKee is Brilliant Rose, Citigem is Rosella, GoldHeart is Celestial...etc), which mean by the time u purchase the diamond (ring, pendant..etc), you will get the Diamond's guaranteed certificate (which include the Cut, Clarity, Carat Weight & Colour).. the boutique allowed you to upgrade with full same price within 2 years.. which mean the price figures are guaranteed for 2 years too! It's much more worth for choosing their signature diamonds.

B3768 / 316

3768 is the Queue No we got for the total 316 units for December Balloting Exercise (BE). I have seen the application was far more above the available unit for the previous BE recently, it might be explained to be the high booming re-sale price in the open market right now. Couples or flat buyers therefore turned their consideration through HDB direct purchasing.

This is definitely another headache for the going-to-marry couples. We had tried balloting on the BTO (Build to Order) before but later on drop the idea after considering the unit will only be ready 4-5 years later. We then look around for the re-sale unit at east area which near dear’s parent house. Though purchasing for the re-sale unit would have larger floor area and more flexibility, but the re-sale prices were rising very fast for the past 1 year.

One thing good for the bi-monthly BE is that there were units with keys available, which mean ready to move in anytime. But seeing the overwhelming responses for BE, we have to search from re-sale market again.

a week of freedom

Put aside the works in office, reservice and ROM stuff, we went for a week vacation in Taiwan. It was a F&E vacation which mean we have to plan for our itinerary and take care of our own accommodation and transportation. We feel that the time spent will be more flexible and we can just pick up where we want to go. Moreover, Taiwan is tourist friendly and we won’t be lost till !!

I done most of the research and pass all the papers to dear before I fly to Cambodia for my adventurous Angkor Wat trip. When I came back I was surprised that dear had done lots of printing especially the itinerary schedule, the maps for the hotel and the timing of those express bus! Must be a hard job for dear cos majority of the Taiwan websites are written in Traiditional Chinese words!

The weather of Taiwan in Mid-Nov is pretty cold, the wind is strong at night which is around 19 degree! I always wear my sweater tight but dear just good enough with a Tee! Gosh, even the Taiwanese puzzled that isn’t he cold? I would jus answer.. he has crocodile skin!

F&E is a tiring yet adventurous trip, we do enjoy the whole journey. On the flight back to Singapore, I asked dear “Where’s next?” .. He took my hand and wrote “J-A-P-A-N” on my palm… WAH ~~ That’s what I think in my mind too !! hehehee..

The Proposal

It was half-year back when dear proposed to me with the ring. Dear said he had spent lots of time visiting the jewelry shops in order to get the prettiest and best afford diamond ring for me. I knew dear had done a lot of research and searching. I love my ring though. It is lovely and gorgeous, most importantly, it is a gift from dear which he had put me into the best consideration. Dear, thank you so much.

Of cos, we guys when buy proposal diamond ring, please buy according to what your budget allows. Size and cost is not really matter as long as you are sincere and it looks nice on her finger then buy it for her. (Opps luckily my "Her" finger is small and dont need to buy too big one, hee hee).Remember Diamond ring depreciation value is also very great and it has poor resale value. When buy diamond, look for one that has an international certificate and it will just look great on her.

It is also reccomended if you can, to spend more money on your wedding band (with small diamond) rather than on your proposal diamond ring as the wedding bands are the one that you will wear everyday.
